Man headed to trial after suspected hate crime assault in Detroit

A Detroit man who is charged in a suspected hate crime waived his preliminary hearing Monday morning. 

Stephen Drake Edwards is accused of felonious assault for an altercation that took place on July 12 on Lyndon Street in Detroit.

Edwards allegedly pointed a weapon at the 23-year-old victim as he walked down the street and reportedly made remarks referring to the the man's sexual orientation.

The victim was able to get away.

Edwards reportedly posted the incident to Twitter, which sparked the investigation. He is charged with Felonious Assault, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Felony Firearm.   

The case is now headed to trial.
