MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man pleaded guilty to attacking a woman jogging in broad daylight at Chippewa Valley High School in September 2018.
Douglas Pearson, 29, was charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree, one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration and Interfering with a Crime Report.
On Sept. 2, 2018, Pearson allegedly chased down the woman as she exercised the high school track around 8:30 a.m. She reportedly became concerned as the suspect approached her. Pearson then allegedly charged at the victim, knocking her down, and violently attempted to remove her shirt while she attempted to fight him off.
Several times, he allegedly grabbed at her breasts and vagina over her clothing, and then stood up and began unzipping his pants. Prosecutors say that at that time, the victim kicked at him and escaped, calling 911. Pearson allegedly took her phone and ran away towards the parking lot, entered a car and speeded away from the scene.
DNA evidence from the scene matched Pearson's, prosecutors say.
On Oct. 29, the circuit court judge agreed to a Cobbs agreement with the defense that if the defendant pleaded guilty to all four counts, she would sentence him to 84 months in prison. Prosecutors say the victim was satisfied with the sentencing agreement.
“While we are grateful for the defendant taking accountability and pleading guilty to all counts, it does not negate the extremely troubling acts he committed, in broad daylight, in the middle of a popular high school track,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith. “Once again, thank you to the Clinton Township Police Department for their diligent investigatory efforts in this case. The citizens of Macomb County can rest easier with this monster locked up in prison and off the street for at least the next seven years.”
