ALANSON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State troopers have arrested a repeat sexual assault offender who allegedly groped a woman at a gas station in northern Michigan.
Officers later uncovered through a record check that the suspect, 45-year-old Elmer Truman, of Cheboygan, is a already on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry as a Tier 3, or lifetime, offender.
The incident occurred Jan. 5 at a gas station in Alanson, Michigan. According to authorities, Truman allegedly walked by a 31-year-old woman and grabbed her butt while she was inside the store. Police say the woman identified Truman as an acquaintance. She also told police that they have never had any type of romantic relationship.
The investigation led troopers to Truman's home where he was arrested for sexual assault and taken to Emmet County Jail.
The Emmet County Prosecutor issued Truman a felony warrant, charging him with one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct as a habitual offender.
Truman's arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7.
