Man shot by police during attempted robbery faces several charges

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 34-year-old man is facing several charges in connection to an attempted armed robbery and police shooting on Friday, Nov. 20.

Nathan Lee Taylor, of Detroit, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, felonious assault, assaulting and resisting and obstructing the police, and felony firearm.

On Nov. 20 just before 10 p.m., Detroit police saw Taylor with a handgun attempting to rob a 45-year-old man in the area of West Chicago and Schaefer Road, near a liquor store parking lot.

When the four officers went to investigate the incident, Taylor allegedly pointed his gun at them and one of the officers fired his weapon, hitting Taylor one time.

Taylor was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then released to police custody.

Taylor will be arraigned Monday.
