DETROIT (WXYZ) — Daryl Edwards, accused of critically injuring four people in a shooting, was sentenced to 25 to 40 years for a shooting rampage that injured four people.

Edwards, 25, was arrested and charged in July 2019 after police say he went on a shooting rampage inside a home on the city's west side. The shooting left two adults and two children in critical condition.

Among the victims was his ex-wife and his own 3-year-old daughter. A third child managed to escape the home and call for help.

He was charged with assault with intent to murder, home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felony firearm.

At the time of the shooting, judges who had handled Edwards' previous cases faced criticism. Court records reveal that, over the course of four years, Edwards was accused at least four times of physically assaulting his estranged wife, as well as a small child. In 2017, he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct.

“Putting someone back out in the community who is a clear threat,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said, “that is a problem.”

Edwards will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Monday.
