One automaker is shaking up the idea of public transit following a big unveiling.

This week, Mercedes-Benz not only revealed its autonomous "Future Bus" in the Netherlands, but also took it for a spin.

While the concept vehicle wont be regularly jam packed with people quite yet, it is full of technology.

The bus reportedly comes equipped with the company's "CityPilot" autonomous system. Some of the highlights: long and short range radar systems, ten plus cameras, GPS, and wireless connectivity - all to help the bus know where it is at all times, and calculate its next move.

The concept bus took its inaugural trip in Amsterdam, covering more than 12 miles on an actual bus route. Mercedes-Benz live streamed part of the journey on Facebook.

Officials said during a presentation Monday that the bus has the capability to identify stops and navigate through tunnels at speeds upwards of 43 miles per hour.

Aside from its self driving properties, Mercedes-Benz notes that every part of the design is purposeful, aimed at encouraging more people to take public transportation.

The inside is made to feel like a park and different sections are meant to accommodate travelers depending on how long they plan on riding.

It's important to note that there's still a bus driver in the driver's seat to monitor the vehicle's movements.
