(WXYZ) — While we may be in the heart of Winter, days are getting longer in metro Detroit.

7 First Alert Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes says we're gaining more than two minutes of daylight every day. So about every four weeks, we're gaining an hour of daylight.

Looking back to the earliest sunsets of the year, about a month and a half ago, our sunset was before 5 p.m. On Jan. 28, our sunset is at 5:43 p.m.

On March 13, our sunrise will be 6:47 a.m. and our sunset will be 6:36 p.m.

Then, Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 14 where we spring forward and our sunset will be after 7:40 p.m.
