Metro Detroit mom on a mission to connect with people saved by son's organ donation

EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Jody Pelt’s son Bill Scruggs was murdered in March inside a basement of a home in Eastpointe, according to police. He was only 20-years-old.

Months after his tragic death, his mother is speaking to Action News about a letter the family received from a man who received his heart.

“He said, that he loves us for not knowing us and he prays for us every single day,” Pelt said.

According to a letter from the Gift of Life, a 53-year-old man has his heart, a 37-year-old man received his kidney and pancreas, a 47-year-old woman has his liver, a 62-year-old woman has his right kidney and a 60-year-old man received his lungs.

“He was a 100% donor,” Pelt said about her son’s organ donations.

A Gift of Life spokesperson said, they were able to use seven of his organs.

In Michigan more than 3,000 are on the wait list for various organs.
