Yesterday folks in the Grosse Pointes were coping with fallen trees after severe wind damage. Today, many are still dealing with downed trees and power lines as many homes and business remain without power.
A tree fell on to power lines in front of the Grosse Pointe Farms police station.
Police Chief Daniel Jensen said, "Patience is the key here."
Grosse Pointe Farms police responded to 80 weather- and tree-related calls yesterday, while they were out of power as well.
"We have an emergency backup generator that runs the police and fire side of the building," he said. "Everybody bear with us and give us a chance to get things up and running."
On Yorkshire Road in Grosse Point Park one side of street has power, the other side does not.
So the neighborly thing to do is offer up an extension cord.
Mary Berschback said, "This side of the street was fortunate enough not to lose power and recently, the last few years we have maintained, we haven't lost our power as much as the unfortunate ones across the street."
With DTE Energy officials saying it could take days to get people on the grid, the extension cords may be the only way these residents can get a little power.
"Neighbors will help neighbors and share they wanted to keep the refrigeration going," she said. "Nobody wants to lose their refrigeration. That's a lot of food lost."
