One local police officer will likely remember his first call for many years to come.

Northville Township Police Officer Tyler Schmittou is credited with helping to save a life on the very first run of his career.

Around 8 p.m. on May 16, the police department says they received an emergency call that a 64-year-old was going into cardiac arrest. Dispatchers reportedly talked the caller through performing CPR until officers could arrive.

Police say officers, including Schmittou, continued CPR and then used an AED -- which was donated to the department earlier this year -- to help revive the patient.

The patient was rushed to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
