Today marks the National Bike to Work day and hundreds of metro Detroiters are expected to take part.

According to Detroit Greenways, they surpassed the available participants to register for t-shirts and a handful of gifts — anyone who wants to get involved is still welcome.

Todd Scott told 7 Action News that from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. they will staff three locations in Detroit where there will be food, fellow bicyclists and giveaways.

* Spirit of Detroit on Woodward at Jefferson. Free bike parking will be provided by Wheelhouse Detroit from 7am to 6pm.

* Old Main at Cass and Warren hosted by Wayne State University

* New Center Park at Second and W. Grand Boulevard hosted by Henry Ford LiveWell

The event is sponsored by Henry Ford LiveWell, and is designed to promote a healthy community.

“We are thrilled to sponsor this event again,” said Kimberlydawn Wisdom, M.D., Senior Vice President of Community Health & Equity and Chief Wellness and Diversity Officer at Henry Ford Health System. “We continue to encourage people to make wellness part of their daily priorities and biking to work is certainly a unique way to do that.”
