7 Action News has confirmed that Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Nick Lyon received a target letter as part of the Flint water crisis case.

He also received an invitation to cooperate with the investigation.

In general, a person only becomes a target after there's an investigation that reveals potential criminal activity.

It is important to note that Lyon is not facing any criminal charges at this time.

In previous public statements, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and the Flint investigative team have said there are no set targets in this investigation.

They say they are following the evidence to where it leads them.

The Attorney General's investigation has resulted in charges against eight current and former state employee, as well as one former Flint city employee.

Several of the charged state workers reported to Lyon in his capacity as MDHHS Director.
