(WXYZ) — One Michigan lawmaker has invited President Trump to present his State of the Union speech here in the Mitten State, instead of Washington, D.C.

Michigan GOP House Speaker Lee Chatfield sent a letter to the President via social media welcoming him to deliver the address at the state capitol in Lansing.

Chatfield's invitation came after Nancy Pelosi requested that Trump postpone the address as a result of the partial government shutdown, now in it's 28th day.

"Washington, D.C. may be bogged down in partisan politics, but Michigan is different," Chatfield wrote. "Michigan helped build this country, and we know how to get things done. In the Great Lakes state, we roll up our sleeves and work hard every day. That includes working collaboratively, regardless of party, and together we can prove it to the rest of the country."
