DETROIT (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police investigated a false report of a freeway shooting Sunday night in Detroit.
Police say that around 8 p.m., a 45-year-old man walked into an emergency room with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man reportedly told police it was a freeway shooting.
After interviewing the man, troopers determined that he had accidentally shot himself. He had a bullet hole through the inside of the bottom of the pocket, police say.
Further interviews led police to the residence of the victim's relative and a pistol was found on the side of the house, indicating that it did not occur on the freeway. Police say the man is a valid CPL holder and the pistol was unregistered.
Troopers are submitting a complaint to the prosecutor for review for careless discharge of a firearm and lying to police during a serious misdemeanor investigation.
