National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is happening Saturday, and all Michigan State Police posts are participating in the event.

According to MSP, Michiganders can get rid of unwanted, unused or expired medications for destruction at all 29 MSP posts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30.

The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked, MSP said.

“This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue,” Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, Director of the MSP said in a release. “Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in Michigan and across the nation are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.”

According to MSP, anyone not able to participate in the day can drop off prescription drugs at any MSP post from Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
