(WXYZ) — A Michigan State Trooper was patrolling near Adrian when he saw something on the road not seen often – a banana car.

Trooper Bill Strouse, of the Monroe post, saw Steve Braithwaite driving the banana car, and pulled him over.

According to the Washington Post, the 59-year-old has been driving his homemade, banana-shaped car across America for two years. He offers rides for people, paying what they can, and sleeping on strangers' couches or in motels.

On Oct. 27, when Trooper Strouse pulled him over, they chatted and he checked the headlights, brake lights and taillights.

Instead of giving him a ticket, he gave him $20.

"Trooper Strouse is an awesome and humble person. I have no doubt he has done things like this his whole career," said F/Lt. Morenko, commander of the MSP Monroe Post.

Braithwaite was heading to Victoria, Texas, saying it was too cold in Michigan. He posted about it on Facebook when he got there.
