A village in northwestern Michigan has a new mayor in paw-ffice.
The Village of Omena voted a 9-year-old cat named Sweet Tart as mayor, according to UpNorthLive.
Omena elects animals as mayor and uses the election to raise money for its historical society. Votes are cast via a $1 donation. UPN reports that this year, more than 7,000 votes were cast.
In terms of legal documents, Mayor Sweet Tart can make administrative decisions with a simple paw print.
Mayor Sweet Tart is also more than qualified for her position; she served from 2012-2015 on the Omena Village Council and served as Omena Vice Mayor from 2015-2018.
Her first and second vice mayors are dogs, while her press secretary is a goat and her special assistant for fowl issues is a chicken.
