(WXYZ) — The Michigan Warriors will face off against three Macomb County police departments in a charitable hockey game honoring fallen K-9 officer Axe.

Last year, the St. Clair County Shores Police Department lost Axe in the line of duty -- and to pay their respects the Michigan Warriors will take the ice with officers from St. Clair Shores PD, Clinton Township PD and Sterling Heights PD.

“I felt that it was important to raise the awareness of K-9 officer’s safety. K-9 officers are vital in their role as law enforcement officers and if there is a means of further protecting those who protect us, I want to make sure that we provide them as many tools necessary to complete the job safely," said event coordinator Daniel Rader said.

The hockey game will take place on Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Clair Shores Civic Arena on 20000 Stephens Street. Admission is $10 per person and can be purchased at the door.

Money raised will go to a K-9 Axe Memorial and to purchase canine safety gear for active duty police dogs.

The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program is a nonprofit organization for disabled veterans to engage in charitable and recreational activities.
