EDENVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has released photos from a 2018 inspection of the Edenville Dam in mid-Michigan.
According to EGLE, the photos were taken after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission revoked the license of the dam's owner, Boyce Hyrdo, to generate hydroelectricity at the dam.
The dam failed on Tuesday causing massive flooding throughout mid-Michigan.
According to EGLE, which was the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the dam was in "fair structural condition" at the time of the inspection.
"Its earthen embankments were well maintained, with only a few bare spots, minor erosion, and no visible signs of significant distress (sloughs, slumps, differential settlement, cracking, sinkholes, etc.) All embankment drains appeared to be functioning," the report said.
The two concrete spillways, according to the report, showed moderate deterioration but appeared to be stable and functioning normally.
