Military veteran Stuart Smith has a new pup after falling victim to a pet adoption scam.

"This is Bailey...she is pug and French Bulldog," Smith says.

Smith went online shortly after he had to put down his beloved English Bulldog. He found another dog online and the breeder asking for a large amount of cash.

He ended up sending a few hundred but never got the dog.

"Oh... it wasn’t the money so much, I just wanted the dog," he says. When he tried to follow up, he got ignored. He went to the police, who he says told him finding his money was unlikely.

"Be careful. Be careful," he warns other consumers.

"I was gullible. I am usually pretty smart about stuff like that." As for the swindlers... "I've got friends that would like to meet up with them."

He got his new dog Bailey after a friend hooked him up with a reputable seller nearby.
