A man from Monroe was killed in a car accident shortly before midnight on Thursday.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the 46-year-old was driving his minivan on Newport South Rd in Frenchtown Twp. when he lost control of the vehicle and ran it off the road. The van flipped multiple times before landing in a ditch.
The driver, who deputies identified as Jimmie Holmes Jr., was ejected from the vehicle. Holmes was taken to the hospital, but died on the way there.
Deputies say both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this deadly crash. No one else was involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
