U.S. Marshals have captured career criminal Anthony Funderburg after our Detroit's Most Wanted segment aired in February.

The U.S. Marshals say they received a tip from an Action News viewer.

“Funderburg is a 48-year-old male with a criminal history - extensive criminal history - and he needs to go to jail,” Deputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia told us.

Funderburg is no stranger to the law. The U.S. Marshals say he’s seen in surveillance video holding up a 7-Eleven store clerk in Pontiac.

“Funderburg and another suspect, they enter into the location initially,” Garcia said.  “They go there, they talk to the clerk, they’re trying to sell him a cell phone – the clerk denies the cell phone, they’re basically just casing the joint out.”

Garcia says it’s only a fraction of Funderburg’s life of crime.

“Funderburg comes back a little while later, now he’s armed with a gun – he has a gun, produces it to the clerk and demands money and takes the money out of the cash register and he flees on foot,” Garcia said.

Well known in Pontiac, Funderburg also has ties to Detroit. Funderburg has a history of robbery, assault, car theft, drugs and fraud.

“This is the type of crime that’s really destroying our communities and cities,” Garcia said.
