Editor's note: Our series "Getting Around Metro Detroit" explores the problems and solutions to transportation issues throughout our area.

The road that is an annoyance to most drivers is finally getting repaired. However, motorists will have to wait a while until it's done.

On Monday, Macomb County officials announced that Mound Road from 696 to M-59 will begin repairs in about 20 months.

“My wife and I have lost four tires and had damage to our cars and it’s probably cost us up to about 2,000 bucks," said George Chapp.

From car repair costs to safety concerns, Mound Road has been well known as a pothole paradise. But all of that will change soon-ish.

As part of the Innovate Mound Road project, the Mound reconstruction project tackling a critical nine miles, eight-lane connection between 696 and M-59. It's being paid for by a $97.8 Million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Infrastructure for rebuilding America.

The repair won't begin until 2020, but residents are OKAY with that timeframe as long as it's actually going to be fixed.
