DETROIT (WXYZ) - An Ypsilanti man has been arrested in the killing of a 21-year-old woman who advertised on the controversial website Backpage.com.
Sources tell 7 Action News the man trolled the escort section and set-up women to meet and then rob.
But Ninoshka Nieves-Figueroa, a young mother whose family had no idea worked as a prostitute, fought back and the man she thought was just like any other customer shot her in the head.
Ninoshka's body was found Friday in a room at the Corktown Inn in southwest Detroit.
Ninoshka's family thought she earned her money as a makeup artist. It was only after she was murdered and the police investigation began that they learned of her online ads for sex.
"I didn't want to believe it," said Mercedes Figueroa about her daughter's secret life.
Sources tell 7 Action News that they believe the suspect has robbed several other escorts he met on the website.
Just after Ninoshka's murder, Detroit Police released a surveillance photo of a possible suspect who was seen running from the hotel, jumping over a fence and into a Cadillac DTS. The tips came in and homicide investigators were able to make an arrest.
Anyone with information on other women he may have targeted is urged to call Detroit Police.
