(WXYZ) — A musical featuring Grammy award-winning musician Sting will premiere at the Detroit Opera House next year.

Sting will play shipyard foreman "Jackie White" and is set to be in every performance of the play. Along with an original score by Sting, the play will include some of his past hits like When We Dance and Island of Souls. The play is inspired by Sting's 1991 album "The Soul Cages," along with Sting's childhood experiences. The musician was born in Tyne and Wear, England and grew up in the mayhem caused by the ship-building industry.

The play tells the story of a community during the fall of the shipbuilding industry in Tyne and Wear. A sailor named Gideon Fletcher comes home after 17 years at sea, as the local shipyard is closing. Sting's character Jackie, along with his wife, tries to keep the community together despite picket lines.

Along with directing by Lorne Campbell, the artistic director of Northern Stage, the musical features set design by 59 Productions, the team behind the video design for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Tickets are set to go on sale Nov. 29 for the play. The play runs April 22-26 in Detroit.
