(WXYZ) — National Coney Island has announced its decision to temporarily close down all locations during the continuing coronavirus pandemic.
The eatery posted a farewell message to its social media Tuesday and encouraged Michiganders to "stay safe."
According to CEO and President Tom Giftos, the coney island has tried to keep its doors open to serve customers, but "as the public health situation in Detroit worsens, and in consideration for the well-being of our staff and customers alike, we have decided to close all NCI stores until further notice."
In mid-March, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order shutting down dine-in services at all bars and restaurants in Michigan amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Some local businesses continued delivery and takeout options, as well as implemented curbside carryout to stay afloat during the crisis.

Dear Friends, Family and Loyal Fans:
During this unprecedented national crisis, we have done our very best to try and keep our doors open to serve our loyalty guests. However, as the public health situation in Detroit worsens, and in consideration for the well-being of our staff and customers alike, we have decided to close all NCI stores until further notice.
We look forward to the day we are all back doing what we know how to do best, which is serving our community and delivering the best Coney experience to our guests, when it is safe to do so in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can find our hot dogs and chili products at local Kroger stores and specialty markets or by ordering a Coney Kit online at www.nationalconeyisland.com.
