A Florida man turned himself in to deputies on Monday after blowing up his house while he was attempting to make butane hash oil (BHO) or marijuana wax on September 3.

Steven Brown, 24, was with other accomplices attempting to manufacture butane hash oil — also referred to as "dabs" — in his home when a fire started and burned his Port Richey, Florida house down.

Deputies say Brown grabbed his drugs and ran out of the house, leaving two caged dogs behind and a 1-year-old in the house at the time of the fire. The dogs died in the fire but the 1-year-old was not injured.

On September 9, warrants were issued for the arrest of Brown. On that same day, Brown fled from a traffic stop and was driving a white 2016 Kia Optima.

Brown faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Place for Purposes of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance
  • Arson in the first degree
  • Felonious Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Suboxone
  • Possession of Oxycodone
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Manufacture of Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell
  • Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (2 counts)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

What is Butane Hash Oil or Marijuana Wax?

From the DEA:

A marijuana concentrate is a highly potent THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) concentrated mass that is most similar in appearance to either honey or butter, which is why it is referred to or known on the street as "honey oil" or "budder."
