U.S. Rep. John Dingell
(WXYZ) - Representative John Dingell was honored by Congressional peers and politicians Thursday for becoming the longest-serving member of Congress.
The celebration took place in the National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol. This is the original home of the House of Representatives.
Some of the guests included Vice President Joe Biden, Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell.
Dingell became the longest serving member of Congress on Friday, June 7 when he surpassed the late Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia.
Dingell was first sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives in 1955, and has served constituents for more than 57 years.
