Samsung announced on Monday that it is asking its partners to stop selling its Galaxy Note7 cellphones as the company investigates the reason why consumers have been reporting that the phones are prone to spontaneous fires.

In September, the company had recalled phones, but claimed it had addressed the issue. Consumers are reporting that replacement devices are still prone to fires.

"Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place," Samsung said in a statement.

"Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available," the company added.

Within the first month of sales, Samsung said 35 customers complained of faulty devices.
