Joint Base Andrews was briefly placed on lockdown Thursday after a woman at the front gate claimed to have a bomb strapped to her chest.

At about 5:15 p.m., the Air Force base issued a press release saying that the base's main gate was under lockdown. The release also asked for personnel and residents to avoid the area.

No missions or flights at the base were impacted.

The base, formerly known as Andrews Air Force Base, is located 10 miles southeast of Washington in Maryland. It's also where Air Force One is located when not in use.
