DETROIT (WXYZ) — New Bethel Baptist church, where Aretha Franklin started singing, is planning to put up a mural that will honor her legacy.

The mural would honor not only Aretha, but her father, as well.

The church says the mural will remind people that Aretha loved God, her father and her church more than anything else. It will be named after her father's popular recorded sermon, "The Eagle Stir Her Nest."

Aretha started singing in the church at the age of 14. She recorded her first album, "Songs of Faith," at the church. Her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin, was a well-known pastor at New Bethel Baptist. After his passing, every year in August, Aretha would hold a concert at the church in his honor.

The church is asking for donations to help fund the mural.

A press conference about the mural is set for 10 a.m. Click here to watch it.
