"Now that's Hot!"

The extreme heat continues out west where it continues to fuel wildfires and potentially causing Earth's hottest temperature....EVER! Initially the hottest temperature ever recorded in the United States was 134 degrees in Furnace Creek on July 10th, 1913. Since then, that temperature has been challenged and disputed and is regarded as inaccurate. Additional record highs have also been hit with the same level of scrutiny, such as the 57.8 °C (136.0 °F), registered on September 13th, 1922, in ‘Aziziya, Libya by the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) - who would later decertify the record.

All of this means that the 130 degree record set this past Sunday in Furnace Creek will probably stand since it was recorded with updated instruments and observed by the National Weather Service.

The Heat Continues

Unfortunately for our friends out west the heat will continue for much of the week with Red Flag Warnings and Excessive Heat alerts continuing. This means conditions will remain ripe for wildfires, which first responders are still battling.
