With the colder temperatures, many crave warm comfort food. But what if you want healthy or vegan options?

GreenSpace Cafe on Nine Mile Road in Ferndale has just rolled out plant-based comfort food menu items.

“We do love our comfort food here,” said Brian Edwards, beverage director at GreenSpace Cafe.

And that was the motivation for GreenSpace Cafe in Ferndale to roll out new menu items. Those items may sound familiar, such as:

“Loaded nachos with seitan chorizo, we have a number of dairy-free milkshakes, we have a Cubano, we have a sloppy joe called the ‘sloppy Joel.’ Its a three bean sloppy Joe,” Edwards said.

The sloppy joe is named after the restaurant owner, Dr. Joel Kahn.

You may remember Kahn from a story we did a couple of years ago when PETA named him one of their sexiest vegans.

GreenSpace Cafe offers comfort cocktails that are plant-based, like a hot toddy! And don’t forget the desserts like cheesecake without the cheese and ice cream without the cream.

Some people may be turned off by the word vegan, but the staff reminds us that it's just like vegetables. And the restaurant's focus is on flavor.

“It looks delicious, tastes delicious, it smells delicious," Edwards said. "Why not give plant-based food a try?”
