Impressive redevelopment plan announced for Greektown neighborhood

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A new vision and framework for the Greektown neighborhood is being announced by The Greektown Neighborhood Partnership.

The partnership was formerly known as the Greektown Preservation Society.

The new vision is being set to provide inspiration and opportunities around the district.

There are five components to the re-development plan including: Public Realm, Mobility & Parking, Culture & History, Development Outcomes, and Neighborhood Experience.

The plan will provide connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods, including downtown Detroit.

Re-development will take place around the neighborhood, most notably the I-375 reconstruction, Monroe Blocks, Gratiot Site, Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, Wayne County Corrections, and 1300 Beaubien, among others.

New signage, retail, street lighting, art galleries, boutiques, residential improvements and opportunities in the neighborhood.

Funding will come from a variety of sources such as grants, private funding, incentives and more.
