The show, which was schedule from April 10-19, will now take place Aug. 28-Sept. 6. Press days originally scheduled for April 8 and 9 will now happen Aug. 26 and 27.

The show was originally scheduled from April 10-April 19 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

"While the decision to move the show dates didn't come easy, our top priority remains with the health and well-being of all those involved in this historic event," Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association, said in a statement. "We have already been in communication with many of our exhibitors and partners and are confident that the new dates for the 2020 Show will make for another successful event."

Last week, they announced that the Javits Center was committed to protecting the well-being of customers and had still planned to open the show as scheduled.

“For 120 years, ‘the show must go on’ has been heavily embedded in our DNA, and while the decision to move the show dates didn’t come easy, our top priority remains with the health and well-being of all those involved in this historic event. We have already been in communication with many of our exhibitors and partners and are confident that the new dates for the 2020 Show will make for another successful event,” Schienberg added.

This is the third major auto show to be canceled amid the growing coronavirus outbreak. The Geneva Auto Show was supposed to take place last week was canceled and the Beijing Auto Show scheduled to begin on April 21 was also canceled.

The 2020 North American International Auto Show – scheduled to take place from June 13-20 with major events happening before in Detroit – is still scheduled to go on.
