The northbound lanes of US-23 at Willis Road have reopened after two separate crashes on Friday.

According to Michigan State Police, the first crash happened around 11:57 a.m., and was a hit-and-run crash.

MSP said they were originally told the at-fault driver tried to flee the scene, but instead, the driver was assaulting another driver who stopped on the roadway. According to witnesses the car was going over 100 mph.

He then began to walk onto US-23 when he was struck by a vehicle. It is believed he was trying to commit suicide. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

While police were investigating that crash, another accident happened involving a semi-truck.

State police said one person was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
