The Novi City Council takes one step closer to creating a $50 million project that will include housing, restaurants and retail space in the Grand River, Town Center area.

Asian Village, the name of the development, will include life-style services and office space, and will be anchored by a 25,000 square foot Japanese and Korean market and foodhall operated by One World Market, according to a news release.

The village will also feature a Japanese-style garden bordering a 4-acre lake.

On Monday, the Novi City Council unanimously approved the sale of 10 acres of property – a $3.15 million investment – at the corner of Grand River Avenue, Town Center Drive and 11 Mile Road.

“We envision the Asian Village project to be a vibrant entertainment and residential hub, and a regional draw, in the heart of Novi," said Developer Scott Aikens. "In addition to the market, and the Japanese-style garden, the project will feature an entertainment venue; a range of best-in-class restaurants including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Indian; and a carefully curated collection of Asian-focused retail and services. The residential community enfolded into the project will make the Asian Village a dynamic place to live as well as play.”

Novi is home to the largest Japanese population in Michigan with a total 3,000 Japanese residents.
