A Sheriff's Deputy is recovering after being injured while responding to a domestic assault that occurred in Commerce Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, officers arrived to the 10 block of Bayberry Dr. on Monday, July 2.

There was a domestic assault complaint where the victim stated that she and her boyfriend had an argument. The argument resulted in the suspect forcibly holding the woman down and taking her car keys. The suspect then went into a bedroom in the home and returned caring a crossbow and shotgun while pacing around the residence.

The victim was able to leave the residence and call the police. Deputies arrived and placed the suspect under arrest. At that point, the suspect became combative, according to authorities.

When the deputy attempted to maintain control of the suspect, they lost their balance and fell off of the porch onto a concrete walkway, falling approximately 4 feet to the ground, according to a release. The deputy sustained a 2-inch cut to the right cheek, requiring immediate medical attention. The suspect was not injured at all, police say.

The injured deputy was taken to Providence Park Hospital in Novi for medical treatment and listed in stable condition.

The suspect is at the Oakland County jail awaiting criminal charges for domestic assault and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
