DETROIT (WXYZ) — One of the U.S. Marshals' most wanted fugitives has been arrested. Corey Gaston was wanted for the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old Detroit girl in June 2007.

“For us, it’s a huge victory. It’s a huge relief," said Joseph Abdullah, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal in the Eastern District of Michigan.

Gaston was arrested by Mexican authorities for something else Sept. 18, according to Abdullah.

“He was picked up under an alias," the chief deputy said. "Those authorities began questioning him and became suspicious of him."

In June 2007, police say Gaston broke into the home of a 10-year-old girl and kidnapped her through a bedroom window.

Police say he put the child over his shoulder and ran to a nearby alley where he threw her on the ground and brutally raped her.

Gaston instructed the victim to return to her home while threatening to hurt her if she screamed or ran away.

The brutality of the crime landed Gaston on the U.S. Marshals Top 15 Most Wanted list.

A press conference will be held about the arrest at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Gaston is also under investigation for passport fraud by the U.S. State Department.
