WXYZ DETROIT — It’s time to check-in with our Community Comments. Our station editorial on Black History Month prompted this response from Eric Dickey:

“Thanks for your editorial and all of the news stories celebrating Black History Month. As a nation, let us never forget the contributions African Americans have made to making America great!”

Anthony Lewis sent us this message:

“Imagine these many years later the vision that Dr. Carter G. Woodson had. What a great historian.”

Lucille Waters mailed in this comment from the Westside of our state:

“I will always remember my years in Detroit. What a great city whose African American citizens have contributed significantly to Black history.”

Our Channel 7 editorial on the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission triggered this popcorn-driven visual and caption from Joyce Perkins:

“Keep Goin”

Don’t worry, Ms. Perkins, the Commission has a lot of work and a long road to travel before it completes its assignment by November 1st.

Kenneth Kolbe wrote:

“Better do some fact checking. What you are reporting is that any immigrant graduated to citizen status makes the rule.”

Amy Baker replied:

“Lol! Sure we do.”

And we received this e-mail from Edward Woods III, the Commission’s Communications and Outreach Director. He wrote:

“Thank you so much for your editorial! We appreciate you encouraging Michigan residents to engage in the redistricting process.”

Mr. Woods was also nice enough to point out that the Commission is expected to receive the completed U.S. Census information on September 30, to help guide its work of redrawing Michigan’s new redistricting maps.

That’s it for now. Thanks for writing and watching.
