Tuesday, November 6th is Election Day. When you walk into the polls or fill out your absentee ballot, you will be facing three statewide proposals. Many believe the first one is the most controversial and could spark a big voter turnout. That’s why on Thursday evening, October 25th, our next Detroit 2020 Town Hall Meeting will focus on the debate over using recreational marijuana in Michigan.

A “yes” vote on Proposal 1 would legalize adult pot in this state. A “no” vote would continue cannabis use for only medical purposes. The arguments for and against Prop 1 range from revenue to criminal justice to health. The outcome of this issue could have major implications for Michigan.

That’s why Action News Anchor Carolyn Clifford will lead a face-to-face discussion in Ferndale beginning on air at 7:30 p.m. It will also be streamed “live” on our WXYZ Facebook page. We invite you to engage with us in real time for this conversation.

What questions, concerns or comments do you have about this issue that you would like to ask experts and local leaders? If it passes, what’s the long-term impact? And if it’s defeated, who wins and who loses? These are fundamental questions that we will come to listen and hear what’s on your mind.

We learn a lot from our town hall meetings and we believe hosting an open dialogue will greatly benefit this region and state. Before you mark an “X” next to the “yes” or “no” box of Prop 1, now is the time to seek the facts! Doing so will help you become a better-informed voter on Election Day. On Thursday, please join us on air and online.
