It's a historic milestone when a respected organization celebrates and survives 100 years of service.  The Detroit Urban League has reached that pinnacle of success!  For the last century, it has been part of the challenge and solution to some of America's most pressing problems.

From the boom years of the 1920's through today's competitive global economy, the Urban League has been at the forefront of helping people of color crack the barriers to employment.  Every year it serves about 70-thousand clients with more than 20 specialized programs.

For the last 25 years, N. Charles Anderson has been leading the Detroit Urban League.  Not surprisingly, he has his attention focused on the League's second century agenda.

"When I look at the history of the Urban League and the work the Urban League did 100 years ago, we're still doing the work, maybe a little different with the use of technology and different types of resources.  There should be a time when we will have these trials and troubles behind us.  But for now, I think the Urban League's work is still the same."  - N. Charles Anderson

We congratulate Anderson and the 5 community leaders being honored tonight recently honored at their 37th annual Distinguished Warrior Dinner.  These individuals deserve being enshrined for their longtime commitment to education, jobs and justice.

Just think for a minute what America would be today without the National Urban League and its 93 affiliates that include Detroit.   We thank the local chapter for its century of commitment to helping people in Southeastern Michigan reach their full potential.
