The November 6 General Election is just weeks away. You will be facing an extensive ballot filled with candidates and issues. To be a well-informed voter, it would be wise to begin prepping yourself now.

Take time to learn the candidates and the offices they are seeking. Familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of the various ballot proposals that will take time to read and understand. Because of term limits, many elected officials will not be able to run again for the office they once have held. It’s turn over time. For that reason alone, this is the most important state election in 8 years! In addition to the statewide votes, drill down on what will be on your ballot from your local area.

If you aren’t registered to vote in November, you have until Tuesday, October 9. That’s the hard and fast deadline! The good news, getting the information you need for Election Day is easy! You can go to our bi-partisan Democracy 2018 election page at wxyz.com which is filled with important voter information and handy links to additional campaign-related sites.

If you are unable to vote in person on Election Day, now is the time to request an absentee ballot. You can do it online, by mail or on the phone. Once you have it in hand, take your time filling it out. If you need help, ask a friend or family member you trust for their assistance.

Voting is your constitutional right and one of the most important responsibilities you will ever have. It is the best way to protect our representative form of government. Never take your right to vote for granted!
