This is the first official week of summer.  School has ended for most Michigan students.  Families and individuals are now ready for some summertime relaxation and exploration. What better place to do it than our Great Lakes State!

Michigan has scenic landscapes, beaches, exciting urban attractions, educational museums and numerous festivals and events. Unlike most states, we have an upper and lower peninsula which are uniquely different. We have famous landmarks, sensational state and national parks, about 12-thousand inland lakes and more miles of coastline than any state but Alaska. We hope you consider all of this when planning your daily or weekly vacations. Tourism is vitally important to the economic health of our state.

Last year, the Pure Michigan advertising campaign was responsible for $1.5 billion in spending around the state and 5 million trips by visitors to Michigan.  Their destinations were wide-ranging.  Encourage your friends and family to explore our state this year.  Make sure they know about Pure Michigan’s free online travel guide and PlanetWare’s top-rated tourist attractions in Michigan.  We’ll provide links to both on WXYZ.com.

As you consider vacation outings to the U.P., Northern, Western or Central Michigan, don’t forget Downstate and a downtown Detroit on the rebound!   Southeast Michigan has much to offer.  And remember that the closest, most affordable ventures, are often the best!

But most of all, travel safely this summer and have fun as you explore beautiful and exciting Pure Michigan!
