In Detroit and many other local communities across Southeast Michigan, voters made their voices heard loud and clear on candidates and issues!

In our state’s largest city, Mayor Mike Duggan was re-elected by a landslide!  A diverse coalition said we are “One Detroit” and rejected race-baiting politics.  Detroiters like the direction their city is headed.  They want the progress of downtown and midtown to aggressively continue throughout city neighborhoods.  They also want more progress on crime reduction, creating jobs and improving mass transportation.  That’s Duggan’s mandate for the next four years.  Let’s build on our success and continue to work together to take this city to the next level.

In a squeaky close contest, voters gave Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey a second chance.  They also gave a strong vote of confidence to the current Detroit City Council.  Newcomer Roy McCallister, Jr. solidly defeated former State Senator Virgil Smith, Jr. to join the group.

Citizens for Sensible Cannabis overcame tough opposition in Detroit to relaxing restrictions on medical marijuana facilities.  You can bet that won’t be the last of this tug-of-war!

Voters re-elected incumbent mayors in Pontiac, Southfield, Dearborn, Westland and Hamtramck.   They said yes to several school upgrade millages, including ballot issues in Troy and Royal Oak.  And in Flint, Mayor Karen Weaver survived a recall effort.

Let’s take this opportunity to unify our local communities and no longer be divided.   The voters have spoken.   Let’s support our newly elected leaders.  Together, we can move our local communities and region forward.
