DETROIT (WXYZ) — With just over two weeks to go, 2020 will soon be history. But thankfully, there’s still time to help make a difference during the worst health pandemic most of us in Southeast Michigan have ever faced.

Although it’s been a challenging year for everyone, it has also displayed the great generosity of our nation, our state and our local community. A recent national report shows that more people in the U.S. reached into their pockets to help others this year. But the need is still great!

Far too many people and businesses have lost their livelihood as a direct result of COVID-19. Many others have encountered unexpected medical challenges. Food pantries have seen some of their longest lines ever. And many non-profits have fewer volunteers to help them meet their growing needs.

Adversity is something Detroiters have faced many times before but together we have always overcome the obstacles. So as the year winds down, we urge those who can give – big or small – to support your favorite charities with a donation. If you need help deciding who to give to, go to this editorialon wxyz.com and see the linkswe have provided to a full list of non-profit organizations in this region.

The other important way you can help impact someone’s life is through your time. There are countless opportunities to volunteer in a safe way.

But most of all, although social-distance will make this holiday season different from those in the past, we wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah, a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy Year!
