The midterm election is now over. Thanksgiving and the winter holidays are right around the corner. The annual Campus Martius tree lighting has become a highly anticipated tradition! We at WXYZ/Channel 7 love teaming up with the Downtown Detroit Partnership and the DTE Energy Foundation in kicking off the holiday season. From Campus Martius to Beacon Park, our exciting downtown will be lit up bigger than ever than ever!

This year’s Christmas tree is a home grown first you must see in person to fully appreciate. It’s not from northern Michigan. The 60-foot Norway spruce was gown in Plymouth and donated by a local family. It will be adorned by 19-thousand multi-colored lights. Another first is a specialty tree that will be on display in Campus Martius Park. Fifteen Detroit schools have been invited to decorate and hang ornaments on it. As always, the lights and ornaments on both trees will be spectacular!

Headlining an extensive list of entertainment will be 12-time Grammy award-winner CeCe Winans, along with Olympic skating duo Alex and (My-Ah) (Shi-boo-thon-knee). Even Beacon Park will have its own entertainment inside the heated Winter Lodge tent. Free shuttles will run between the two parks and the Q-Line will be in operation.

Downtown will be the place in Southeast Michigan to be on Friday, November 16th. Many restaurants and bars will be open. A record number of food trucks will also be on hand along Michigan Avenue. Come see why many people are moving into the city and why everybody around the country is talking about Detroit!

WXYZ is proud to be the official broadcast partner with Campus Martius for this special night. Please join us for our “Light Up the Season” special next Friday beginning at 7pm on Channel 7.
