(WXYZ) — A new PETA promotion is set to hit Detroit airwaves this week as many people start out their New Year's resolutions.

The organization partnered with actress Kimberly Elise to create a public service announcement citing the vegan lifestyle can help curb obesity and ward off cancer.

"Stock your shelves with fruits, veggies, and grains, and try those veggie burgers and sausages you've seen on grocery store shelves," Elise says in the PSA. "Live the healthy life you deserve—go on, try it!"

According to VH1's "Hit the Floor" star, African-American communities and low-income neighborhoods are more likely to have limited access to fresh, healthy foods. Local popular vegan shops like Detroit Vegan Soul and VDaLish are working to ease to issue with catering and cooking classes.

Other celeb supporters -- including Joaquin Phoenix, Forest Whitaker, Peter Dinklage and Emily Deschanel -- have also joined the PETA campaign to promote healthy meat-free meals.
