Seaplane crashes into Upper Straits Lake in Oakland County

ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A seaplane crashed on Upper Straits Lake near the Orchard Lake Nature Sanctuary Saturday afternoon.

The crash reportedly happened at 5 p.m., according to the Orchard Lake Police Department. It is believed the seaplane attempted to land on the lake, but hit an occupied boat in the sand bar area.

Minor injuries were reported to the pilot and occupants of the boat, according to the Orchard Lake Police Department. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The West Bloomfield Fire and Police Departments, and Oakland County Sheriff's Department assisted the Orchard Lake Police Department at the scene.

This is now being investigated by the Oakland County Marine Division and the Federal Aviation Administration.
