CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Canton Police Department as well as Plymouth and Plymouth Township police were at the Plymouth-Canton Education Park investigating a potential threat on campus Thursday.

According to police, a student sometime before 2 p.m. reported to a security officer that there was believed to be a gun on campus. That security official then notified school administrators.

All buildings on campus went on lockdown. School dismissal was delayed for several hours as the investigation continued. This included all three high schools, which have a combined total of about 6,000 students.

During an update, police said there were no reports of injuries and all students are safe.

No weapons have been recovered and no one is in custody as of Thursday evening.

Parents were asked to not attempt to pick up their kids. Officials wanted to keep the area clear for police.

School officials and police had a plan in place and once the scene was safe, they supervised the release of students.

Authorities commended the public for staying away from the area as they investigated the large high school campus.

The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district and programs will be closed Friday, Dec. 10, school officials announced.
